Where we were, where we are & where we are going...

Wealthy Fields Farm was established in 2016 in Melfort, Zimbabwe, with one vision: to cultivate the land in harmony with nature while producing quality food for our community. What began as a 30-hectare maize operation has evolved into a diversified agricultural enterprise that places soil health at the very heart of everything we do.

Our journey toward sustainability took a significant leap forward in 2019 when we expanded our operations to include cattle ranching. This wasn't just about diversification, it was a strategic decision that allowed us to close the loop on our farm's nutrient cycle. By integrating livestock with crop production, we began our transition toward regenerative agriculture, using cattle manure to replace artificial basal fertilisers and rebuild the living systems beneath our feet.

Today, Wealthy Fields stands as a testament to what's possible when agricultural tradition meets innovation. Guided by our motto "Soil First", we're proving that productive farming and environmental stewardship aren't opposing forces, but complementary goals that strengthen one another.

What We Grow

Maize
Our 27 hectares of arable land produce a diverse range of crops tailored to both market demand and ecological balance:
Maize remains our flagship crop, drawing on years of experience and the rich, well-watered soils of eastern Zimbabwe.

Through careful variety selection and soil management practices, we consistently deliver quality grain to local markets.
Cabbage, Groundnuts and Roundnuts complement our maize production, providing crop rotation opportunities that break pest and disease cycles while adding nutritional diversity to our output. These crops also play a crucial role in our soil health strategy, with groundnuts fixing atmospheric nitrogen and enriching the soil for subsequent plantings.

Premium Beef
Our cattle operation does double duty: providing premium, pasture-raised beef to local vendors while serving as the cornerstone of our regenerative agriculture system. Our cattle graze on carefully managed pastures and their manure returns vital nutrients and organic matter to our croplands, reducing our dependence on synthetic inputs.

Looking Ahead: Millet Production
While Melfort's location in eastern Zimbabwe blesses us with reliable rainfall, we recognise the value of climate-resilient crops. We're exploring millet production as a strategic addition to our portfolio. Millets offer nutritional benefits, market potential, and added insurance against shifting weather patterns.

Regenerative & Conservation Agriculture
At Wealthy Fields Farm, we don't just extract from the land, we invest in it too. Our integrated approach to farming focuses on building soil health, biodiversity, and long-term productivity: by utilizing cattle manure as our primary fertiliser source, we're reducing synthetic inputs while improving soil organic matter, water retention and microbial life.

We employ minimal tillage practices, crop rotation and cover cropping strategies to prevent erosion, maintain soil structure and protect the precious topsoil that is the foundation of our productivity.

Our cattle and crops work together in a mutually beneficial relationship. Livestock provide fertility for crops, while crop residues and pastures feed livestock. Diverse crop rotations and managed grazing patterns also support a wider range of beneficial insects, soil organisms and wildlife across our farm.

While our produce isn't fully organic yet, every season brings us closer to that goal. We're committed to a measured, science-based transition that maintains productivity while steadily reducing synthetic inputs.

Growing the Next Generation
Agriculture's future depends on knowledge transfer and at Wealthy Fields Farm, we take that responsibility seriously. We provide meaningful employment to local community members, offering not just jobs but skills development and agricultural training.

Our internship and attachment programme welcomes aspiring farmers, agriculture students and crop scientists, giving them hands-on experience in both traditional and regenerative farming practices. Each year we have attaches who join us from a variety of universities across the country. Interns work alongside our experienced team, gaining practical knowledge in soil management, integrated pest management, crop rotation planning, livestock handling and sustainable farming economics.

We believe that by training the next generation of agricultural professionals in regenerative principles, we're investing in a more sustainable food system for Zimbabwe.

Our Commitment
Wealthy Fields Farms is more than a business, it's a living demonstration that quality food production and environmental care can go hand in hand. Every decision we make is filtered through our "Soil First" philosophy, because we understand that healthy soil is the foundation of healthy crops, healthy livestock and ultimately, healthy communities.
As we continue to grow and evolve, our commitment remains unwavering: to steward our land responsibly, produce food with integrity, support our local community and leave the soil healthier than we found it for generations to come.
